Participants in this years’ One Book/One New Prague event learned firsthand what an arduous process writing a book can be. Author Diane Wilson talked about writing her book The Seed Keeper. “I’m a slow writer,” explained the author. “It took me about ten years to write the book, but it really took me about twenty years to learn all the stuff I needed to know to write the book.”
The book is a remarkable story based on the history of Dakotah women who saved their seeds through famine and war to ensure a future for their people. It portrays the mindset of native people, and how they fostered an agreement of reciprocity with their seeds, and with the earth.
The overall message of the evening was that we all share a relationship to the water, to the earth, and to each other.
